Arasbaran forests and Babak castle, a large citadel on the top of a mountain in the Arasbaran forests, are the most famous attraction of Kaleybar.

Itinerary

Day 1

Arasbaran forests

Arasbaran forests are the best sources of nature in the North-east of Iran and we have to respect it; respect to all trees and this great nature. We call this region a “wildlife museum” because of the great variety of plants and animals. The start point of the tour is Tabriz, so we continue from there to Arasbaran forests (200 km, 03:00) and walk to Babak castle; one of the most amazing castles of Iran. Our lunch will be a box made by a tour guide and is full of different traditional and energic participants and I’m sure it will be great at nature. Babak castle is built by Babak Khoramdin in the Sasanian Empire era, the height of the castle is 2,300 m and has a great view from Arasbaran forests. We return to Kaleybar and have dinner in our nice local house.

Day 2

Hiking in history

It’s time to visit beautiful cathedrals and cultural highlights of east Azerbaijan so we start the day by transferring to Kordasht (203 km, 03:30) to visit the ancient bath there. This bath had built by the order of Shah Abbas I order and used only for kings but after that used for normal people by order of Qajar king. After that, we continue to Jolfa (114 km, 02:00) and visit Asiyab Kharabeh; ancient water mill and wonderful nature of that. Then, we continue to our accommodation and have dinner.

Day 3

City of cathedrals

Our first destination is Saint Stepanos Monastery, that UNESCO world heritage is and located in a mountain in Jolfa, the building is a castle that has great scenes. After that we continue to visit Khaj-e Nazar Caravanserai; it’s great to know that there is another Caravanserai like that in Armenia; in front of each other near the Aras river. Finally, we return to Tabriz.
