Since the country bears all four seasons, you can use all kinds of places with various climates. Let’s talk about the mountains. Some of these mountains are so high that they’re usually covered in snow, such as Damavand, Alam Kuh, Zard Kuh, Sabalan, Sahand, Shir Kuh, Kuh-e-Garin, and many more. Not only can you trek and have an exciting time, but also visit some ancient ruins from hundreds of years ago up in the heights. Tours take place throughout the year for everyone to mount these giant rocky structures.

Best season for trekking in Iran

Before every travel, you must make sure which time of the year is best for visiting the place you’re planning to go. So, what is the best season for a sensational trip? Mid-spring till late summer is the perfect time to trek in Iran. It’s safe and easy, and you can also have fun catching sight of the colorful vegetation that grows around this time. In winter, it’s best to go with a professional, or else you’ll end up struggling in the middle of nowhere. The rivers and forests may freeze or be covered with snow, so walking around might be a bit risky. Of course, going out in the wild during winter has its magnificence, but you don’t need to worry about avalanches, heavy rain, or other natural disasters when it’s May till September.

Main Mountain ranges of Iran

Zagros and Alborz are the two main mountain ranges of Iran. The First range is Zagros, which is about 990 miles and starts from the Northwest and goes down the west border until the Southeast of Iran, where Hormuz Island is located. It reaches the Persian Gulf and covers parts of both Southeastern Turkey and Northern Iraq. Moreover, Mount Dena is where Zagros is at its highest.

The second major mountain range is Alborz on the country’s Northern side by the Caspian Sea. The range is 370 miles and goes horizontally from the Southern border of Azerbaijan to the northeast of Iran in Khorasan, and of course, the highest point is the famous Mount Damavand. Professionals and mountaineers usually are very enthusiastic about Damavand trekking in summer.

Alborz range is separated into three parts, the Eastern, Central, and the Western. The far Western part of Alborz is called The Talish Mountains, located near Gilan Province. The Central part, especially near Mazandaran Province, is very tropical and humid, with lots of trees and mist. As it runs along the Caspian Sea, the mountains are close to the sea in Ramsar, which makes the roadside mesmerizing. Lastly, the Eastern side covers Golestan, Semnan, and Khorasan provinces. The Golestan National Park is one of the first national parks in Iran, a place where flora and fauna are protected in its breathtaking jungles.
